Shangaï Limited Edition

Shangaï

In the 1920s, Shanghai, which was also known as "the Pearl of the Orient", was the scene of an incredible cultural blossoming which contributed to its mythical aura. At that time it was one of the few ports in China that were open to the outside world, and had become a flourishing financial and artistic centre. This mysterious city thus became a symbol of the fascinating confluence of East and West. The skill of applying Chinese lacquer to metal has linked S.T.Dupont with the Far East since the 1930s.
The new Shanghai limited edition pays homage to this luxurious city and to the work of European designers of the 1930s. This exclusive series reflects the fantastical China of European dreams.

Made up of a Ligne 2 lighter, a Néo-Classique Président pen (available as a fountain pen or roller ball), cufflinks and a belt, the Shanghai limited edition range is a true work of art. Adorned with decorative elements inspired by both Art Deco and Chinese culture, the products showcase the magnificent skills of S.T.Dupont's master lacquer workers and precious goldsmiths.
Gold dust is applied by hand to the lacquer, which is of the deepest black, and forms a halo of golden light that is almost magical.
Shanghai means “on the sea”, and it is for this reason that S.T. Dupont’s craftsmen created a precious gold inlay in the shape of a wave to adorn both the lighter and the pen. This traditional motif in Chinese culture is combined with a contemporary and poetic graphic design that is evocative of rain. In Chinese culture, the number 8 is considered to be a talisman of good fortune. Eight colour of the sun citrine gemstones have therefore also been set by hand into each lighter and pen. The products are numbered out of 1088 to bring good luck. Like a seal, a Chinese character representing good fortune hallmarks each product.
This collection is rounded off by our luxurious writing accessories: an inkbottle and a pen-holder in black lacquered wood inlaid with gold dust.
The belt and cufflinks are decorated with diamonds, the symbol of perfection and universal sovereignty, with 6 diamonds for the belt and 4 diamonds for the cufflinks. Each of these objects comes in a sumptuous presentation case in black lacquered wood.
